INSURER ACCUSES LAW FIRM OF THREATENING BOGUS LAWSUIT

The NJ Law Journal reports today:

“Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. claims in a federal court lawsuit filed Wednesday that Manhattan insurance attorney Michael J. Devereaux tried to secure payment for legal bills by threatening litigation. According to the carrier, Devereaux, in a draft complaint that was never filed, sought $3 million for an unnamed executive’s alleged interference with his business relationship with Liberty Mutual and threatened to expose the executive’s “personal misconduct” unless the Devereaux firm was fed 25 or more new cases within 60 days. Among other alleged indiscretions, the complaint said that the unnamed executive used Devereaux’s Manhattan apartment for trysts with women who worked at Liberty Mutual as well as with prostitutes and pressed Devereaux for money to pay for two prostitutes while the two men were in the Dominican Republic.”
